Answer the following questions.

 a. What is meant by fundamental rights and fundamental duties? 

  • Ans. The rights provided to the Indian citizens by the Indian Constitution are known as Fundamental Rights.
  •         There are certain actions which the citizens are expected to perform and abide by. These are known as fundamental duties.


b. State the features of the Right to Equality. 

Ans. The Right to Equality means that all individuals are equal before the law. 

● It ensures that all the citizens are treated equally. 

● No discrimination should be made on the grounds of sex, religion, race, caste or place of birth of the citizens. 

● The practise of untouchability is abolished. Practising untouchability in any form is a crime. 

● Titles like Raja, Maharaja, Rai Bahadur, etc. have been abolished. Only titles such as Professor, Doctor, Colonel, etc. are allowed.


c. Mention any three freedoms enjoyed by the people under the Right to Freedom. 

Ans.  ● Freedom to move freely anywhere in India 

● Freedom to form groups and associations 

● Freedom to reside and settle in any part of India


d. List any three fundamental duties of Indian citizens. 

  • Ans. To abide by the Constitution and respect the National Flag and the National Anthem; 

● To cherish and follow the noble ideals that inspired India’s struggle for freedom; 

● To protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of our nation; 

● To promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood among all the people of our country;


e. Why are rights and duties considered two sides of the same coin?

Ans. Rights and duties are two sides of the same coin. It is important to understand that rights and duties cannot be separated from each other. While we exercise our fundamental rights, we must perform the fundamental duties too. Every individual can enjoy his rights when others fulfil their duties.
