 a. What is meant by culture? 
ANS. Festivals, customs, beliefs, arts, language, dance, music, etc. of a society, group, period or place is called culture.

b. Define heritage. State the two types of heritage. 
  • ANS. The word heritage means any valued objects or qualities that have been passed down to us from the generations that preceded us. 
  • It includes buildings, monuments, values, and traditions that are inherited from the past. 
  • There are two types of heritage: Material heritage and Non-material heritage.

c. Explain the features of the art of theatre in India. 
  • ANS. The art of theatre in India is as old as the art of music and dance. 
  • It has always been a medium for people to express their feelings. 
  • The traditional theatre in India is weaved with drama, poetry and music. 
  • It is often based on religious or mythological themes or community life. 
  • A few of the traditional theatre forms in India are Raasleela, Bhavai, Dashavatar, Krishnattam, Koodiyaattam, and Therukoothu.

d. What information do we get from the material heritage of India? 
ANS. We get information about buildings, monuments, sculptures, statues, paintings, books, crafts, coins, etc. that are inherited from the past.

Q. As a citizen of India, how will you protect the material heritage of India?

  • ANS. We should never litter near these monuments when we visit them.
  • we should never scribble on the walls or damage any part of the monument.
  • The stealing of antique objects should be checked.
  • These monuments are of historic importance so we should preserve them.
