Answer the following questions.
a. Why is ‘hazardous waste’ so called? Give an example of hazardous waste.
ANS. Hazardous waste endangers public health and environment.
Such waste can easily catch fire and explode, or can be toxic for human beings and animals.
Examples of hazardous waste are used thermometers, bulbs, and batteries.
b. What is meant by waste management?
ANS. Waste management includes collection, transport, processing or disposal, managing and monitoring of waste materials to reduce its effect on humans and environment.
c. What are the different methods of waste management?
ANS. There are many methods of managing waste, some of the most common are: Open dumping, burning and landfills.
d. Why is recycling of waste important?
ANS. When waste material is collected and sent to a recycling unit, it is segregated and processed into new material. Waste recycling is done so that the use of raw materials can be reduced.
