Sovereignty--the power that a country has to control its own government

Tenure- a legal right to live in a place, hold a job, use land, etc. for a certain time


Answer the following questions. 

a. State any three features of Security Council.

ANS. Its primary responsibility is to maintain international peace and security. 

It consists of fifteen members which includes five permanent members and ten non-permanent members. USA, UK, Russia, France and China are the five permanent members of the Security Council. 

 They hold the most important power called veto meaning the right to reject a decision or proposal made by any other member. The non-permanent members are elected for a two-year tenure.

b. Write any two aims of the United Nations.

ANS. The  two aims of the United Nations. 

1. To maintain international peace and security.

2. To respect and promote human rights.

           

c. What is the role of the General Assembly? 

ANS. It is a unique forum where discussions on various international issues are conducted. The General Assembly may also take action in cases of any threat to world peace.

 d. Why was United Nations formed? 

ANS. The League of Nations was formed immediately after World War I for promoting international cooperation and achieve peace and security among different countries. 

However, the League of Nations failed to prevent World War II.

So, The United Nations Organization or the UNO was formed in 1945 after the Second World War. It replaced the League of Nations.
